UCI Health announced this week an exciting change in leadership. Julie Eastman, RN, will ascend to the role of Chief Information Officer (CIO), bringing with her a unique amalgamation of expertise in nursing and information technology.
Eastman officially began her role on July 24. Recognized by UCI officials for her robust leadership skills and progressive vision, she is primed to reshape the future of technology infrastructure within the healthcare system.
Over the past year and a half, Eastman has proven her capabilities in the role of associate CIO at UCI. Now, she steps up to fill the shoes of Scott Joslyn, freeing him to devote his full attention to his responsibilities as Chief Innovation Officer.
In her new position, Eastman’s remit is expansive. She will align UCI Health’s IT investments with its broader strategic and business objectives. This involves managing the health system’s IT infrastructure and supervising a myriad of projects and initiatives.
Further, Eastman will lead several departments across the IT teams. These include application delivery and support, clinical informatics, telecommunications, and biomedical engineering, as per UCI leaders’ directives.
UCI Health CEO Chad T. Lefteris expressed his confidence in Eastman’s appointment, stating, “Julie’s unique combination of nursing and IT experience, leadership qualities, and vision stood out, making her the ideal choice for this crucial role.” He added, “Her strategic direction will aid us in integrating the latest technology to streamline our operations and uphold our commitment to patient care excellence.”
Eastman began her career as a critical care nurse and then ventured into the realm of technology leadership. She has held several distinguished roles in California, such as the executive director of information services at CHOC Children’s and VP of information services at MemorialCare Health.
