A Tribute to Ruth Bader Ginsburg from the Women in Technology

by | Nov 6, 2020 | News, Stories

There are so many things that have been said about the honorable Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the notorious R.B.G. She was a pioneer, advocate, fighter, dissenter, and so much more. Her work paved the way to equity and leveled the playing field in traditionally male-dominated fields such as technology. Ruth Bader Ginsburg believed in equity for all peoples and used her intelligence and education to passionately dissent against discrimination in legislation, always fighting for the equal civil rights of all Americans.

We reached out to our community of women in technology and our allies to echo the effect that Ruth Bader Ginsburg has had on their own lives. The words chosen in the image above directly reflect the impact one great woman’s career has done to change the landscape of the Tech Industry as expressed by the UCI WIT community.

May she rest in peace and power, and may we continue the work she has started.

How has Ruth Bader Ginsburg inspired the Women in Technology at UCI?

“RBG’s work on women’s rights and equity has been a critical step in building the foundation for advancement of women in all fields including Technology and STEM. I am inspired by her passion, brilliancy, selflessness and service to all and would continue her legacy by advocating for equity and inclusivity of all people.”

“RBG stands as a role model who embodies strength, determination and perseverance. She was a trailblazer on behalf of so many battling inequity and despite the odds, managed to leave a lasting legacy on our world today. I aspire to have even a fraction of her impact moving forward.”

“RBG has inspired me to encourage other women to pursue a career in technology or any other field that interests them, in spite of stereotypical gender roles.”

“RBG has inspired me to try to be impeccable with my word, and to stand firm in my well-thought-through opinions.”

“RBG empowered women to believe that they could and would do anything they set their mind to. Technology is traditionally a male-dominated field, as is the case with all STEM areas. She has helped women to unite and make their voices heard in these areas and many more. She has inspired me to go after I want with both grace and grit.”
